Why Smoothie Scroll?

True fluidity + Inertia

Momentum-based scrolling that feels native and responsive. Real macOS-style inertia, rare on Windows.

Ultra lightweight

Minimal resource usage. Runs silently in your system tray.

100% free core

No ads, no tracking, no subscriptions for the core experience.

Custom control

Exclude specific apps or games with a single click.

How it works

Every click of your mouse wheel tells Windows to jump the page down three lines and stop. That is the whole reason scrolling on a PC feels choppy. It is a run of small jumps rather than actual movement, and once you notice it you cannot stop noticing it.

Smoothie Scroll catches each of those clicks before the app underneath ever sees it, and turns it into motion instead. One slow click nudges the page along. Spin the wheel quickly and the clicks pile onto each other into a long glide that keeps coasting after you let go, the way a trackpad behaves on a Mac and Windows never has on its own. The slowdown at the end is timed rather than counted out in frames, so it feels the same on a basic office monitor and on a 240Hz gaming panel.

It also scrolls whatever your mouse is hovering over, not whatever you clicked on last. Park the pointer on a window sitting behind the one you are working in, spin the wheel, and that window scrolls. You never have to click into it first.

Nothing about this touches the programs you use. Smoothie Scroll installs no driver and changes nothing deep in Windows. It is one small app sitting in your tray, and closing it puts scrolling back exactly the way it was.

Where it helps

Reading and research

Long articles, PDFs and documentation stop reading like a flipbook. The page keeps moving after you let go of the wheel, so a long page takes a few flicks instead of twenty notches.

Design and creative tools

Panning a Figma board or a Photoshop canvas gets the same glide. Ctrl+scroll zoom is left alone by default, so your app keeps handling zoom exactly as before.

Trackballs and free-spin wheels

A Kensington Orbit or a free-spinning wheel fires a burst of notches at once. Smoothie Scroll stacks that burst into one long, decaying glide instead of a pile of jumps.

Games

Most games read mouse input directly and ignore Smoothie Scroll. If one of them does not, add it to the exclusion list and it goes back to raw wheel input.

The Smoothie Scroll FAQ covers compatibility, activation, privacy and that SmartScreen warning.

Windows scrolling has always felt choppy compared to macOS. When others started charging annual subscriptions for a basic utility, I built the open alternative. Smoothie Scroll is built by a user, for users.
